About TallyBarn
TallyBarn is a set of 52 free calculators for building projects, unit conversions and everyday math.
Who runs this site
I'm Steven Hummel, a data engineer who builds small, genuinely useful tools like this one — free, fast, and built to just answer the question you came with.
I try to bring the same three things to every project: kindness, integrity, and honesty. I hope it saves you a few minutes.
If you spot a bug or have a request, my email's below — I read everything.
Every calculator on the site is written, checked and edited by a person before it is published — the formulas are verified against an independent reference, and the explanations are written to be read rather than to fill space.
How the calculators are checked
Each calculator states the formula it uses and works through a numeric example, so you can confirm the result rather than take it on trust. Where a figure comes from a code requirement, an official table or an institutional convention — insulation R-values, grading scales, tax treatment — the page cites the source and says plainly where local rules may differ.
Nothing here is a substitute for professional judgement. Anything with structural, financial, legal or health consequences should be confirmed with someone qualified to sign off on it, and the relevant pages say so.
How the site is funded
TallyBarn is free and carries advertising. Ads are clearly labelled and kept away from the calculator controls so they cannot be clicked by accident. We do not accept payment to alter a result, and no calculator recommends a product.
Your privacy
Every calculation runs in your browser. Nothing you type into a calculator is transmitted anywhere or stored on a server. See the privacy policy for what is and is not collected.
Corrections
If a result looks wrong, please say so — a formula error on a construction calculator has real consequences and we would rather hear about it. Get in touch and include the calculator and the numbers you entered.
